Snake of the Day 11-06-17

Show & Tell

We haven’t bred these in almost 15 years now, but here are pix of some of our past Banded Amel Motley corn snakes.  When Motley, Stripe or Bloodred are in concert with albino (Amel) it’s difficult to alter ground color zones away from two shades of orange–toward red on white–but with patience and diligence, it can be attained in several successive selectively bred familial generations.   Bonus PIC . . .

If either of the parents of this Miami Okeetee corn are het for Caramel, it’s unbeknownst to me, SO, I don’t understand why this one exhibits such strong yellow in the first part of the body, unless it’s overt early exhibition of carotenoid retention??  The latter is surely the explanation, so it will be interesting to see what this snake looks like in another year, two years, five years?

Snake of the Day 11-03-17

Show & Tell

Similar to a picture I featured in 2016, a comparison of the sloughed epidermis (shed skin) of a Scaleless corn and that of a scaled corn (scaleless version lower-right).  The belly scales of both are similar, HOWEVER, there seems to be a thickness to the skin of the Scaleless mutants that surpasses the skin thickness of most scaled corns??

Our last two 2017 Scaleless female corns without color or pattern mutations are now for sale.  They are approximately 15″ long, eating frozen/thawed pinky mice.  They are $600.00 USD each, and that includes    note:  ALL Scaleless corns in the hobby toDAY (including SCALED corns that are carriers of the Scale-less mutation–aka Het Scaleless) are descendants of the original pairing of a Corn Snake to an Emory’s Ratsnake (aka: Great Plains Ratsnake).  Therefore, all Scaleless corns (and their scaled siblings) are inter-species hybrids.

                                                         Happy  Halloween

No, I did not make a Halloween costume for this Scaleless corn.  Didn’t see that she was sporting some eye brows (pseudo horns?) until I took the pic.   Bonus Pic . . .
