Most snakes that are about to shed are said to be “in the blue“, so-termed for the color rendered by separation of the outer skin generation soon to be sloughed. Blue Motleys (Dilute Anery Motleys) take that phrase to a new level. The gene mutation, Dilute, that is added to–in this case Anery Motleys–renders an appearance similar to the gene mutation that gives some dogs like Shetland Sheepdogs their added namesake color; Blue Merle.
