Show & Tell

Note how little pattern contrast there is in this 2018 Scaleless Motley hatchling corn snake. So far, all Scaleless corns I’ve seen with “hard” markings, have not been Motley mutants, even though they had strong dorsal Motley appearance. Apparently, what we all recognize as a typical scaled Motley corn mutant consists of an aggregation of what you see here, in addition to the outer skin/scale dermal layers over-laying other melanin components that complete the classical Motley pattern? Even though most scaled Motley corns have faint or completely missing black blotch margins–that are so evident in non-mutant corns–different degrees of melanin are still elsewhere a part of the Motley pattern. SO, when the outer-most dermal layers are absent, we’re left with a largely feature-less and drab snake with indistinct markings (like the Scaleless Motley featured toDAY)? I always say that corn snake hobby mutants don’t have to POP to be POPular. If they’re new, rare, and different, we just have to acquire them.
