Show & Tell

The newest U.S. Ratsnake species to be discovered in decades is the Kisatchie (aka: Slowinski’s Ratsnake), Pantherophis slowinskii. ToDAY’s featured Kisatchie is a Silverleaf mutant, produced by Dr. Brad Lichtenhan here in Texas, discovered by KJ and Kasi Lodrigue. This one is obviously aberrant, but aberrant pattern is very common in this gene mutation of the Slowinski’s species. There is only one other mutation (BLACK) at this time, which is an Anerythristic type mutation. I call them BLACK so people will not mistakenly think they are the result of inter-species hybridization with an Anery mutant of the corn snake species. One thing I like about this species is that I have never yet seen any yellow carotenoid expression. Even the BLACK mutants of this species do not get the yellow that is so common in most Anery-type corn snakes. BONUS PIC . . .
