SHOW & TELL

At one year of maturity, some of our 2013 Leucistic Gray-banded Kingsnakes (Lampropeltis alterna) are developing a blush of orange over most of their bodies.  I hope this continues to intensify in color with age.  No, that’s now a white dorsal stripe.  Many white corn snakes appear to have such a white stripe down their dorsum, so perhaps it’s their spinal column showing through their color-less skin?  Thank you, Pete Quinlin for making such beautiful Gray-banded Kingsnakes.

Some Palmettos even show random color in their eye(s).  As seen here, non-typical color in the iris usually looks like rust, but since it does not change in color and volume, it is more likely chromatophoric.  I would say that THIS mutation breaks the rules of leucism, but that’s the very role of gene mutations of any species.  Genetic EXTREMISTS???   S . . .

Adult female Banded Fluorescent Corn Snake.  Who would ever have imagined even ten years ago that a variant of a single gene mutation (Amel) could be so beautiful and market-popular with all the different competition multi-gene mutants in the hobby?  I’m now trying to envision this color scheme in a Tessera.

2013 Amel corn Het for Cinder (one parent was a Peppermint–aka: Amel Cinder).  Most Amels that are het for Cinder have a look that Cinder breeders recognize as markers for being het Cinder.  Of course, just seeing an Amel like this is no guarantee that it IS het Cinder, but it’s handy to have indicators when culling possibly non-Cinder Amels from Het Cinder broods.    S . . .
