Snake of the Day 04-28-16

Show & Tell

Comparison of young adult Anery and Charcoal Tesseras.  The lower-right head is that of the Charcoal Tessera.  Note the virtually all-black eye of the Charcoal Tessera that lacks contrast between pupil and iris, VS. the Anery Tessera that demonstrates a black pupil on a silver iris.

When I first crossed a Blizzard with a Tessera I chose the most yellow Blizzard I had.  This was in an effort to have a strong pattern contrast in the mutation compound VS. creating virtually pattern-less white corns that barely (if at all) demonstrated the Tessera pattern.  Since then I have used Blizzards without any noticeable yellow, rendering virtually all white Blizzard Tesseras.  Bonus Pic . . .

A few years ago we bred a Kastanie to a Java (unproven genetics thus far) and this is one of the progeny.  Some were not as pale as this one, but this one typifies the general coloration.  Ongoing breeding trials will hopefully identify the inheritance of Java corns (first produced and named by a South African corn snake breeder).

We have eggs from these two “Striped” Honey corns (pic taken when they were juveniles), so we hope to finally be able to sell some this summer.

No reason to pose a high-white Reverse Okeetee with one of the new SMR red-modifying Amel mutants, except perhaps for contrast.  If this red Amel exhibits this much red at sub-two-year-old size, I’m excited at the prospect of extreme red at maturity.
