Snake of the Day 08-29-14

SHOW & TELL

Some Palmettos even show random color in their eye(s).  As seen here, non-typical color in the iris usually looks like rust, but since it does not change in color and volume, it is more likely chromatophoric.  I would say that THIS mutation breaks the rules of leucism, but that’s the very role of gene mutations of any species.  Genetic EXTREMISTS???   S . . .

Snake of the Day 08-30-14

SHOW & TELL

At one year of maturity, some of our 2013 Leucistic Gray-banded Kingsnakes (Lampropeltis alterna) are developing a blush of orange over most of their bodies.  I hope this continues to intensify in color with age.  No, that’s now a white dorsal stripe.  Many white corn snakes appear to have such a white stripe down their dorsum, so perhaps it’s their spinal column showing through their color-less skin?  Thank you, Pete Quinlin for making such beautiful Gray-banded Kingsnakes.

Show & Tell

Adult female High-white Reverse Okeetee corn snake we were fortunate to get from John Finsterwald (Zorro) of ColoradoCorns.com.  John was kind enough to gift this beauty to my wife, Tammie, a fews back and she LOVES her (those of you who know Tammie realize how significant that is).  Seriously, John, she is not only the best we’ve had, but the prettiest I’ve seen.  Thank you SOOO much.   . . .
