Macro view of the head scales on the Cayenne Fire featured on February 5, two DAYs ago.  Aberrant–or even missing–Frontal Scales (bell-shaped center scale) is not exceedingly rare in corns, but this one demonstrates that the aberrancy also impacts adjacent scales whose peripheral shapes usually match those of adjunct scales.  In some cases, missing or aberrant head scales are the result of a gene mutation.  Bonus pic
